Sri Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple administration has made elaborate arrangements for the 30-day Margazhi festival to commence on the hill temple.
The temple will be open from 4 a.m. on all festival days. To mark the commencement of the festival, ganapathi homam will be performed at Sri Anandha Vinayagar Sannadhi, situated on the outer prakaram of the temple. Thirupalli Ezhuchi will be followed at moolavar sannadhi.
Six kaala pujas will be performed to the main deity during festival days. Visarooba dharshan will take place at 4 a.m. on January 15. Special pujas will be performed to the presiding deity to mark Utharayana punya kaalam and for Thai Pongal festival.
The winch operation will start at 3.30 a.m. for the convenience of pilgrims visiting the temple. The festival will conclude on January 15. Iron barricades were erected on the hill temple to regulate the crowd. However, the number of pilgrims visiting the hill temple has been increasing every day, thanks to Sabarimala season.
Meanwhile, the temple administration has been giving finishing touches to cabins of the first winch which is in disuse for the past one-and-a-half years. The temple administration hoped that this winch would become operational soon. Only two winches have been used for transporting pilgrims to the hill temple and back.
With limited transport facilities, women and the aged have been waiting for a long time to get a seat in the winch. Already, the rope car operation has been suspended after an accident in which four officials were killed on the spot.
